309 309s Stainless Steel Slitting Coil

ASTM A240 SS 309S Full Hard slitting coils, Stainless Steel 309S Half Hard slitting coil, UNS S30908 Quarter Hard slitting coil, UNS S30908 Half Hard slitting coil, AISI 309 2B Finish slitting coil, UNS S30900 Half Hard slitting coils, AISI 309S Quarter Hard slitting coil.

309 & 309S stainless steel slitting coils are high-chromium, high-nickel alloy slittings for applications where heat and corrosion are on the edge of conventional grades. Abhay Steels produces, supplies, and stocks these coils for businesses where material failure at high temperatures is not an option.

ASTM A240 SS 309 1/4 Hard slitting coils distributor, UNS S30900 Full Hard slitting coil exporter, AISI 309S Half Hard slitting coils supplier, Stainless Steel 309S Half Hard slitting coils stockist, ASME SA240 SS 309S BA Finish slitting coil manufacturer.

The chemical composition makes these grades durable: 23% chromium, 13% nickel, and up to 1.5% silicon . That mix forms a lasting layer on the surface that stops rust and damage from sulfur, even when used at high temperatures up to 980°C. The standard 304 or 316 grades start deteriorating much before that.

309 versus 309S – What’s the Difference?

309 and 309S have the same basic composition, but AISI 309S has a lower carbon ceiling (0.08% max compared to 0.20% for 309) . 309S has a lower carbon content and is preferable for welded systems. The heat-affected zone is resistant to carbide precipitation, which ensures its corrosion resistance after fabrication. For all non-welding purposes, both grades work equally well.

Coils are the material of choice for furnace parts, combustion chambers, heat treatment retorts and boiler parts. At temperatures exceeding 700°C, they have an oxidation resistance that just can't be matched by austenitic grades such as 304. The chromium-nickel ratio. They also resist cyclic heating and cooling without the surface scaling that would impair thinner-gauge components.

Corrosion Resistance in Industrial Applications

The high chromium content (23%) of 309/309S coils makes them quite resistant to oxidizing environments. They also have good resistance to sulfur compounds. This makes them an ideal choice for petrochemical processes and catalytic converter components that encounter acidic and hot exhaust fumes.

Slitting process produces precision-width slittings from master coils with very tight width tolerances of ±0.10 mm. This removes the need for secondary cutting on your shop floor and lowers material waste, feeding straight into automated stamping lines, roll-forming machines, and coil-fed presses. Edge quality is consistent, mill edge or slit edge, according to application requirements.

309/309S Slitting Coil Industrial Applications

They are used in chemical processing plants for reactor vessel linings, pipework, and heat exchanger components. They are the choice of boiler manufacturers for combustion chamber walls and high-temperature tube sheets. In the automotive exhaust industry, 309/309S slittings are used for catalytic converter substrates and exhaust manifold liners. They are widely used in metal fabrication as backing plates for welds that support the root pass in heavy stainless steel assemblies. This grade is also used for internal parts that are exposed to continual temperature changes in thermal processing equipment such as kilns, annealing ovens and retort systems.

309 and 309S slitting coils are manufactured to ASTM A240, ASTM A167 , and DIN 1.4828 . Available in hot-rolled and cold-rolled conditions. Surface finishes are 2B, No. 1 (hot-rolled annealed), and brushed depending upon the downstream use. Every delivery is supplied with mill test certificates showing full chemical and mechanical data.

Coils come in thicknesses from 0.30mm to 6.00mm and widths from 10mm to 1500mm . Coils have a conventional internal bore diameter of 508 mm (Ø500 mm core), making them suitable for conventional decoiling equipment. Specific slit widths and specific coil weights are available for big-volume orders.
