When looking at 310-Grades, we usually have two types. The common difference lies in the carbon content. Standard Grade 310 has a maximum carbon content of 0.25% while 310S has a low amount of carbon, up to only 0.08%. Both have extremely good corrosion resistance but slightly differ in welding applications. For the risk of carbide precipitation on welding or intergranular corrosion, the low-carbon variant UNS S31008 BA Finish Sheet is used, and for maximum creep resistance and good strength, the standard grade is the preferred choice. For applications that generally demand extensive welding where post-weld annealing becomes avoidable, then 310S is the good choice.
Jindal 310/310S Stainless Steels exhibit oxidation resistance under cyclic conditions up to 1100 degrees Celsius. At sub-zero temperatures these grades also maintain high toughness and are made to be used across cryogenic applications. When it comes to mechanical properties, UNS S31008 Cut to Size Plate at annealed condition give results as tensile strength 625/575 for 310/310S respectively, while yield strength 350/290 for the same 310/310S grades respectively.
