AISI 309S Plain Sheet have standard names such as UNS S30908 and S30900. Both standard 309 and 309S grades can be used across high-temperature zones, mainly including furnace parts, heat exchangers, applications with minimal welding procedures, and welded applications. UNS S30900 2B Finish Sheet are the premium standard products engineered to meet various industry demands in elevated and high-heat surroundings.
ASME SA240 SS 309S Perforated Plain Sheet display over 515-670 MPa tensile strength, while yield strength can range from 205 to 351 MPa, varying from condition to condition. Both standard 309 and 309S (low carbon) grades are available in different thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 12mm and widths, hole patterns, along with different surface finishes, including No.1 (hot rolled annealed), 2B (cold rolled), No.4 (brushed), mirror finishes, and more, available to meet both application and aesthetic standards.
Both options offer significant additions of chromium and nickel, with certain enhancements of other alloys that make UNS S30908 Perforated Sheet perform excellently against heavy corrosive environments. Industry-standard UNS S30900 No.8 Sheet display outstanding oxidation resistance up to 1038℃ under continuous service up to 982℃. Due to the significant addition of nickel, these grades form a tenacious, protective oxide layer that demonstrates scaling resistance at severe heat.
The standard choice, ASTM A240 SS 309 Perforated Satin Sheet, is generally prioritized for high-temperature strength during the welding processes, when the welding requirements are not the primary factor. Also, grade 309 steel performs significantly well during elevated heat environments as well as against creep, but cannot perform consistently in cyclic environments. When welding is not necessary, but high temperature strength and creep resistance are the preferred choices, then the standard grade 309 stainless steel meets your demands with lower cost and dependable performance.
On the other hand, AISI 309 BA Finish Sheet, is the carbon-minimized grade that contains only 0.04% carbon rather than up to 0.20% in the standard grade 309, which significantly reduces the risk of sensitization. This grade is recommended to be used across moderate to high temperature environments, which offers exceptional corrosion resistance post-fabrication. If your project heavily relies on extensive welding, thermal cycling, or severe exposure to highly corrosive media after the fabrication process, then 309S is the absolute choice, which also gives outstanding stress corrosion cracking resistance and intergranular corrosion resistance that optimizes potentially long-term life and lowers maintenance costs.
